Readings for the First Week of 2015

OK, I am becoming more excited about reading through the Bible chronologically next year.  For those who want to follow the same daily readings that I plan to use, here is a table of the first week's readings:

January 1                       Genesis 1:1-3:24

January 2                       Genesis 4:1-5:32
                                       1 Chronicles 1:1-4
                                       Genesis 6

January 3                       Genesis 7:1-9:29

January 4                      Genesis 10:1-5
                                      1 Chronicles 1:5-7
                                      Genesis 10:6-20
                                      1 Chronicles 1:8-16
                                      Genesis 10:21-11:26
                                      1 Chronicles 1:17-27

January 5                      Job 1:1-3:26

January 6                      Job 4:1-7:21

January 7                      Job 8:1-10:22

May we find just what we need; may we receive all that God wants to give; may we respond energetically and appropriately to the daily reading of God's Word.

Speedy Delivery!

The chronologically-arranged Bible that I ordered came in the mail recently. I have been browsing through it, reading the introduction, and so forth, in preparation for my year-long project for 2015--reading through the Bible, reflecting on it, and posting some of my thoughts to this blog from time to time.

One thought has been bouncing around in my head already. It is this: Who is to say what constitutes a chronological arrangement of the biblical materials? That very question is addressed in "The One Year Chronological Bible" with the admission that there are many opinions--scholarly and otherwise--concerning the proper sequence for biblical writings according to the events of history. "The One Year Chronological Bible" publishes one particular attempt to logically sequence the biblical writings.

OK, so I can take it or leave it. I can agree or disagree with the choice of sequence, based on my own thinking. But, here I go again--asserting my control over the text, even before I have read the first word of it.

God, help me to suspend judgment concerning the accuracy of this particular book's sequencing. I've read through Your Word many times in canonical sequence. Let me receive whatever You want me to know and whatever You want me to embrace by reading Your Word in a different ordering of books, chapters, and verses. I feel so excited, anticipating the mysteries that You may disclose to me in A.D. 2015! I hope and pray that my experiences in Your Word will knit me closer to You and will propel me to joyful, faithful service in Your name. Amen.

Again, dear reader, I invite you,to join me in this enterprise. I hope and pray that it will be both fun and challenging.

In the Beginning

God willing, I plan to read through "The One Year Chronological Bible New International Version [ISBN-13: 978-0842350907]," beginning January 1, 2015.  I hope to post thoughts, reflections, and insights inspired by the reading. Praise God! May God's Spirit guide throughout the year.
